Dear teachers, colleagues and friends!

As you might know, in 2020, due to the unforeseen circumstances we made a decision to cancel the XII International research-to-practice Conference titled “Family, school and community: thinking and acting for a child”.

We know that the Kazakhstani expert community, our teachers, and foreign colleagues eagerly wait for the annual meeting to discuss current issues in education. However, organising a Conference, even in a virtual format, poses great risks we would not be able to manage. Having analysed the risks, we concluded that the most responsible decision we could make is to cancel this year’s Conference.

Nonetheless, as we promised, we are not leaving you without insightful content.

We have organised a release of a series of video podcasts titled “Intellectual Podcast” with speakers of the Conference and Kazakhstani education experts.

The first guest of the new Intellectual Podcast by Intellectual Schools is Andreas Schleicher, OECD Director for Education and Skills.

Mr. Schleicher is the curator of Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) and other international surveys which serve as a global platform for innovation and transformation of education policy and practice for policy-makers, researchers and teachers from different countries and cultures.

In this episode of the podcast, called “Education disrupted – education rethought” Andreas Schleicher delves into the consequences of the pandemic on education around the world and in Kazakhstan, as well as new risks and opportunities.

Andreas Schleicher talks about why education and technology must go hand in hand in the future, as well as ways to prevent technology from replacing teachers. Using international comparative surveys, Andreas Schleicher explains why factors such as time spent on learning, quality of learning time and educational environment, and the ‘growth mindset’ of students can impact student results in the 21st century.

Andreas Schleicher also talks about the future of educational technology development, as well as issues of ethics and values in the world, which will never be the same.
