Dr. Karin Haar

MD, MMed (STD/HIV), MPH

International Consultant Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section Drug Prevention and Health Branch United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)

Dr. Karin Haar works as international consultant/ United Nations Volunteer (Public Health Expert) in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation section at the UNODC headquarter in Vienna. She joined the team about three years ago and has since supported the implementation of family skills programmes worldwide. In particular, the programmes benefitted from her epidemiological and statistical expertise that was needed to further gain evidence in the pilots and clinical trials occurring in several countries simultaneously.

Before joining UNODC, Karin led the vaccine department at the Austrian Ministry of Health, she worked as Programme Manager for the HIV, STI and bloodborne-infections programme at the European CDC in Stockholm, and she was an epidemiologist in the area of sexual health at the national German public health institute (Robert Koch Institute) in Berlin.

Karin is a medical doctor (University of Vienna), completed her General Practitioner training, and she holds a Master of Medicine degree from the University of Sydney and a Master of Public Health degree from the Berlin School of Public Health.
